Why Give

Caring for the Uninsured and Underinsured

You may not realize that WakeMed is solely self-supporting through patient care revenue, income on investments and support from business and community leaders.  The hospital system operates as a private, not-for-profit 501(c)3 health system and receives no county or state funding for operations; however, it provides more than 85 percent of Wake County's charity care.  WakeMed’s mission is to provide outstanding and compassionate care to all who seek its services, regardless of ability to pay.

Because WakeMed’s operating revenue is used to offset the cost of care for the uninsured and underinsured, there is often a limited budget for non-critical projects, programs and services that can enhance patient and family care.  Some of these might never be possible without support from our community.  Through donations to the WakeMed Foundation, supporters have partnered with us on a wide variety of important projects throughout the system.

You can make a difference today by making a donation through our secure online donation page.

"WakeMed is more than just a hospital and health system. It is a community in which we have made many friends. Our youngest son, Ryan, was born at 30 weeks and under dire circumstances. Kate and I had no control and were forced to leave his safety in the hands of the NICU. They were incredibly devoted and compassionate to every patient and family member. We are eternally grateful for saving his life. To have a top flight organization coupled with wonderful people make us feel safe and confident to champion their cause. The WakeMed Foundation dedicates its time and resources to expand this community and we were honored to give back through a charitable gift. Thank you for all that you do."
